Rex is a 25-year-old Percheron who is a retired Military Horse who served for 12 years providing funeral honors for Service Members in Indiana. He has been a fan favorite since he arrived. Cloud of Witness Ranch is his retirement home, and he will not be used very much but horses love to work, and he did not want to sit back and watch his herd mates have all the fun. He showed us early on he wanted to help, and he made an excellent therapy horse for lessons. He will be used in a limited capacity in this role. His main role will be to welcome and support his fellow Veterans when they come to the ranch.
Fox is a 17-year-old Appendix Quarter Horse. She has a spunky personality but when it comes to her riders, she knows just what they can handle. In the pasture though, she and her fellow red head love to keep our staff on their toes. Fox has been a therapy horse for many years and has many devoted riders who love her. She loves her people and is always quick to come to the fence for some love.
Samson is an 11-year-old Percheron Quarter Horse cross and is the Alpha of the herd. He takes his role very seriously and always wants to know what everyone is doing on the ranch. But do not let that fool you, he is also the prankster of the herd as well. He loves to take cell phones out of back pockets so beware. He enjoys the more independent riders, but his personality makes him a fan favorite of all who come to the ranch.
Poncho is a 11-year-old Appendix Quarter Horse who is an “in your pocket” kind of horse. This is his first time being at an equine center like Cloud of Witness Ranch. Prior to joining us he had experience in Ranching shows, and he is a seasoned trail horse. It will be a little while before Poncho joins the therapeutic riding team, but he is an amazing horse for our Equine Assisted Learning and other programs. He is always the first to greet you at the fence. He loves his attention from humans.
Reno is a 17-year-old Paint and is the old soul of the herd. He is as gentle as they come and loves to teach new riders the joy of being on horseback. He is a bit of a loner in the pasture but is never far from his herd. He loves to have books read to him and will stand for hours to listen to children read to him. He is the inspiration behind our reading program.
Violet is a 12-year-old Kentucky Mountain Horse and our only gaited horse in the herd. Violet is also a horse that has a chronic health condition that does not let her live the same life as her herd mates. She takes medicine daily and her activity level must be monitored. She is progressing in her training as a therapeutic riding horse but her bond with our clients will most likely come from the life they share. One with daily struggles yet a desire and will to live the best life possible.
